Welcome to the House of Dumas

And just like that, I’m 34! Where did the time go?

It’s funny, when you’re younger, time seems to drag ever so slowly while you just can’t wait for things … for summer break, to be able to drive, to get your first job, to go to middle school, high school, college, to be able to wear make up, date boys, and to just get older in general. What no one ever seems to realize, until they actually get older, is being young is where it’s at! You have naptime, snack time, mandatory physical education class to help those snacks not stick in all the wrong places, and no cares in the world … you wake up, go to school, do homework, and socialize, no adulting required. Through my own children, with the help of moody/sassy tween/teen years, I’ve found myself realizing all those wants all over again … I can’t wait until they can drive, get a job, and start to adult, so they realize just how easy they have it.

When I actually sit and think about it, I’ve rushed them along their whole lives. Don’t get me wrong, I love being a mom and would go to the ends of the earth for my children, but from birth, I’ve been waiting for the next thing … waiting for them to be more alert to play (then praying for a nap, so I could have one too or at least a 1 minute shower), waiting for them to roll over (then hoping they wouldn’t fall off of anything), waiting for them to crawl (then hoping they didn’t get into anything), waiting for them to walk (then running after them before they ran into the road), waiting for them to grow out of the car seat (then realizing they still need a booster seat), waiting until they could eat “real” food (then realizing most food isn’t “real” these days), and so on and so forth, which is a HUGE factor in why I wanted to start this blog. Just as I am turning older, so are they, with my first born turning 14 in 6 months and my second turning 13 just 9 months after.

I wanted us to have something to look back at, an ever changing visual aid of our growth, accomplishments, and progressions. While I can’t wait to see how we evolve in our lives, I’m taking one day at a time now and cherishing every happy and frustrating second of their final years with me before going off to adult in the world. Happy birthday to me and our new baby, The House of Dumas.
