Many thanks to Pour Taproom for having me. Although this visit was part of a media night, all opinions are my own.
I’ve always wished I had acquired the taste for beer. Some random dorm party in college, through a significant other who enjoyed a beer or two on the weekends, from most of the men in my family who have a couple of beers at a holiday. Somewhere. At some point in time. When I reached my thirties and it still hadn’t happened for me, I figured I’d missed my window of being one of those individuals who orders a beer and a hot dog at a baseball game rather than a wine spritzer and nachos … because let’s face it, I hate hot dogs as well.
Despite all this, I was really excited by the concept of Pour Taproom and the idea of a wall full of taps of which to pick your poison from. I didn’t think they’d have anything for me, but I did think Nathan would enjoy it, so I drug him along to live vicariously through him.
Pour Taproom
Let me reiterate that I do.not.do.beer … having said that, Pour Taproom is the place for me. The amount of options to choose from is phenomenal and they’re all curated locally or regionally, which is enough to make you want to give it a try just to say you did.
When you step in, you grab whichever glass meets your fancy and you’re handed a VIP tag that makes you feel all kinds of special … at least I did, don’t judge my life. I was excited to learn it’s not just beer, there’s also wines and ciders … praise be! At first, I had a bit of trouble trying to get my VIP tag to work but once I figured it out, I made my way around those walls like a kid in a candy store. You know the kind who excitedly walks around the whole store but only ends up with a tiny sample because they like gummy candies and most of the store is chocolate.
I tried all the ciders, getting at least half a glass to make sure I was really giving it the old college try. Some of them tricked me with wondrous names while tasting like trash horribly unpleasant … fool me once. Others were so good I may have gone back and had another round, filling my glass all the way that time. I perused the wines until I saw no Moscato and promptly moseyed back to the ciders that appreciate my sort of refined taste.
The Verdict
All in all, I was pleasantly surprised and excited I’ve finally found a place I can go to with Nathan where he won’t judge my life for asking the bartender to please make me something that tastes like the good Kool-Aid that uses half the bag of sugar. I’ve also realized I could totally be a bartender as long as my only requirement is pouring beer to people who will only ask me how the ciders taste … because nobody wants to hear “oh, I haven’t tried that one just yet”.
On the way out, I happened upon a staff member who seemingly has the same must taste like sugar sweet drink tastebuds as I and she recommended I give the chocolate beer a try on my next go round … because there will definitely be a next go round.
