Kids too old or too cool for summer camp? I’ve got 3 summer budget activities for teens to consider that will not only mix things up, it will get them out of the house. Two of them will even have you exploring … for less.
AMC A List
I saw a matinee showing of Captain Marvel in Disney Springs in March and recall seeing something about the A-List scrolling across the screen, but I don’t typically go to the movies due to the expense and I didn’t buy into the A-List being a deal for me. It’s “only” $21 a month but that adds up, especially if you aren’t taking advantage of the thing you’re paying for. Fast forward to a month later and I was sold.
When I saw all the Disney and Marvel movies coming out summer of 2019, I went ahead and got a membership before seeing “Us” – avoiding that annoying $1.75 convenience fee that comes along with reserving your seat online … which took my Captain Marvel ticket from $5.59 to $7.34 might I add.
With the membership, we were able to reserve Avengers: Endgame tickets as soon as they were released … I actually saw it three times because I didn’t feel like I was paying for it. I saw a total of 8 movies ($100.92) in April and have seen 5 ($75.69) thus far in May. With both V and me having a membership, instead of hearing, “What are we going to do this summer?”, I’m hearing, “Do you want to book tickets for The Lion King now?”
Total Cost: $19.95 plus tax ($21.40 for me)
Groupon|LivingSocial
V finally has an appointment set at Boston Children’s Hospital to meet with a Pediatric Neurologist who’s well versed in Myasthenia Gravis. This appointment has been months in the making and I am so excited to get the opportunity to show her Boston – budget style with the use of Groupon.
There’s no denying my love for Groupon and LivingSocial. I use them when I travel, I use them around town, I use them for all.sorts.of.things. For Boston, we’ll be doing an on and off bus tour and a Boston Harbor tall ship excursion, which we likely wouldn’t be doing without Groupon because it would have been the difference between paying $156 direct instead of the $62.65 I paid on Groupon
Whether you’re staying around town, taking road-trips, hopping on budget flights, or just trying to feed your kids neverending stomachs, always check out what’s available on Groupon before you go. They normally don’t expire until a few months after purchase, so start looking now for those later trips.
Total Cost: Varies based on the deal you get but seek out the 20% discount codes often available for an even better deal.
Frontier Kids Fly Free
This is for the moms (and dads) with teens under 15 … I just make it with my daughter, so I’m still able to be quite excited about this deal.
If you’ve got a flexible schedule to fly on select days, which appear to be Tuesdays and Wednesdays, your kids under 15 fly free with the purchase of your adult ticket on Frontier Airlines. You do have to be a member of the airlines Discount Den program but it’s only $59.99 a year and you’ll definitely save that and then some in ticket cost.
Total Cost: Depends on where you’re going plus a one time fee of $59.99 for the Discount Den.
What are some other summer budget activities that your teens will be doing this summer that I may have missed?
