Who isn’t looking for a cheap date these days? If you are one of the many individuals out there receiving supplemental assistance to pay for the rising cost of food and groceries, you may feel like you don’t have the funds to pay for “extras” like dates out with your significant other or treating yourself to a good time but you’re wrong. If you’ve only been using your Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (or SNAP) card for food, you’ve been missing out. If you’re a North Carolina or South Carolina SNAP card holder, here are a few cheap dates in Charlotte cultural venues that offer a phenomenal discount when you show your SNAP card.
A Night at the Opera
Opera is one of those things you either like or you don’t. Either you’re going to have a Julia Roberts ‘Pretty Woman’ moment, wiping the tears from your eyes due to the overwhelming beauty you’ve just beheld or you’ll leave confused, bored, and vowing never to return. My very first Opera was Toni Morrison’s ‘Margaret Garner’ story performed at Opera Carolina and I was hooked.
Get $10 adult tickets and $5 child when you mention your SNAP card. If that price is still too steep, you can try your luck an hour prior to curtain and tickets are complimentary at the box office.
Music to Your Ears with the Symphony
Music just has the power to lift my entire spirit. Jazz and classical have always held a special place in my heart for their ability to tell an entire story without pictures or video. I’ve always found money for the symphony, even if that only meant listening to the Symphony Hall station on Sirius XM while on a road trip or picnicking in my trunk with the hood up.
The Charlotte Symphony offers a Music For All program where tickets (limit of 6) are just $1 with your SNAP card. It’s the best available seating and they can be purchased beginning an hour prior to the performance. This may leave you feeling like you’re pushing your luck and will miss out, but I’ve attended solo as well as with my daughter, and every time our seats have been phenomenally placed, front and center, in the Orchestra.
Being a Kid Again at the Children’s Museum
If the opera and symphony are a bit too stuffy for your taste, you can’t go wrong with the Discovery Place Museum. For just $2 per ticket (up to 6 tickets), you can experience animal encounters, participate in labs, and learn the science behind making ice cream – if you’re lucky, you’ll get to try it too.
It is preferred tickets are reserved online and parking can be added for a discounted rate of $8. This offer works with your SNAP card or your WIC card.
You can’t beat any of these deals and if you’ve ever had any interest in the arts but felt you couldn’t afford to go, you won’t regret taking advantage of these opportunities. Cheap dates in Charlotte have never looked, or sounded, so good.
What’s holding you back from cultural events like the opera or symphony? If it’s the price, and you have a SNAP card, will these deals get you out of your house into a seat in Uptown Charlotte? Please, let me know in the comments and, as always, thank you for reading!
